I don’t like this, either. For one thing, I think social media has upped the bar for almost every celebration. Everyone wants a Halloween they can put on Pinterest or Instagram, or even if you don’t post your life, you still are exposed to other people doing so, and that can affect your own behavior. My teacher friends say the bar for classroom decoration has been moved up, too, by teachers doing Pinterest worthy classrooms…that’s a lot of pressure.

I also don’t like the creepy stuff. I was gonna relate some of the creepier stuff I’ve seen and I gave myself the ick so I stopped and deleted it. You’re welcome.

I don’t decorate much for Halloween, much to my Second Spawn’s disappointment. I’m not opposed, I just think it’s a lot of work! I go all out at Christmas and that’s enough for me.

Maybe I’ll buy a pot of mums.

Robert, I won’t blame your sheltered childhood — I’ll blame your lack of trend awareness. “Hygge” was spotlighted during the pandemic. It’s Danish. I’ll let Merriam-Webster do the heavy lifting: “…a cozy quality that makes a person feel content and comfortable.”
As for Poe, the roses stopped showing up in 2009, and the identity of the person who laid them on his grave every January 19th (his birthday) for sixty years remains a mystery.
