‘Course there is, Jill! And most honest guesses will catch something. But no one can (or ought to, at least) sit still with a single ‘answer’ they assume tells the whole story. There’s always something you miss, and that’s where (if it’s not too humiliating!) all the fun gets in.

In reply to Joe. Could be, Joe! But I always feel a sense of awe when I know I'm looking at a natural formation that people centuries (millennia?) before me also viewed. It tends to fine-tune my perspective.

We look for patterns everywhere, and we tend to find what we’re looking for, no matter what. Is that ‘projection’? Maybe. I don’t want to bring the current state of politics into play here (it’s too obvious, for one thing), but the world’s always tossed up riddles. Things approach us and ask us what we make of them, and from some internal somewhere we respond, as if we’re a kind of fulcrum or balance-point between a curious world and our own curiosity.

Meaning? Your guess is as good as mine.

The vast majority of people, both living and dead, have neither seen nor heard of the old man, and seemingly are none the worse for it. And those who have seen it? Has their vision of the world now been reshaped in ways unexpected? Nature serves as a magnificent Gestalt test and I expect if we see an old man in the granite are we projecting something in us onto the world?
