Reading A Christmas Carol as a kid scared them…um, dickens out of me (sorry, couldn’t help myself).

But this is probably the kind of ghost story I could handle! After all, scaredy cat that I am, I didn’t find Bettlejuice scary at all…

Its (very) down-to-earth Olympians were all worthy modern updates of their classical originals. Silly fun with a sly edge . . . the memory now has me wondering about the brief scenes of comic chaos in C.S. Lewis’s The Magician’s Nephew, when Jadis (later the white witch of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe) gets transported into Victorian Lodon. Who was reading whom, I wonder?
